Suicidal Tendencies Transforms Riverside
As a conduit for free speech and fighting censorship, Suicidal Tendencies has had more than their share of fighting the good fight. Avant garde music and breaking molds means one is on the forefront of such matters. Years gone by and nothing has changed with respect to the intensity, music, and vision of Mike Muir and his men of mayhem.
On December 13, 2014 Suicidal brought their passion to the Riverside Municipal Auditorium in the Mission district. Standing in front of the venue, a fan remarked to me, “I dunno man. This place looks like a church.” I replied, “Fuck yeah it is; it’s the Church of Suicidal!” He broke into a mischievous grin and hoofed it inside for the show.
Shooting Mike Muir is akin to photographing a tiger in a cage. His movements, fluid and purposeful, remain unpredictable enough to keep the crowd guessing and moving themselves. He moves between the other band members and you can see in his facial expressions and body language that he feeds off of their musical energy. This symbiotic relationship has the obvious effect of pumping up the crowd. It also shows their dedication to their art, in that they don’t just sing and play, they feel the music.
Part-way through the show kids and other fans were invited up on stage for a real treat. It was great to see both the deer-in-headlights faces of the ST youth as well as the seasoned ST veterans in full reverence for the Suicidal band and crew. The venue itself is an EXCELLENT place to see any show. Inclined seats behind a full open floor provide nice viewing or tons of room for moshing, whatever your preference is at the moment. There is also a sweet balcony for VIP which provides not just a great view of the FULL stage but also sweet overview of mosh pit action. The folks at RMA couldn’t be any nicer or accommodating to their fans and the sound and lighting are nothing to be snubbed.
Music Icon News would like to thank the Riverside Municipal Auditorium as well as Livenation for making this venue and the Suicidal Performance one to remember!
